Property owners in Bernalillo County can now visit satellite offices to file an appeal—or protest—if they believe their property’s assessed value is incorrect. This appeal period runs from May 1 to June 2, giving homeowners a full month to take action.
What Is a Notice of Value?
Every year, the Office of the Bernalillo County Assessor sends out a Notice of Value (NOV) to property owners. This notice shows how much the county believes your property is worth, which is used to calculate your property taxes. If the value looks too high or has incorrect information, you have the right to file a protest.
Where Can You File a Protest?
From now until June 2, property owners can visit two My Vote Centers that are now acting as satellite protest offices. These are located on both sides of the Rio Grande, making it easier for residents from different parts of the county:
Andalucia Shopping Center
5600 Coors Blvd. NW (Near Coors and Montaño)
The Shoppes
6001 San Mateo Blvd. NE (Near San Mateo and Osuna)
Both locations are open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch break from 12 to 1 p.m.

A Joint Effort for the Community
The satellite protest offices are possible thanks to the collaboration between county departments. County Clerk Michelle Kavanaugh offered the use of voting centers to help the Assessor’s Office serve more people easily.
“Using these vote centers gives residents more options closer to home,” said County Assessor Damian Lara. Clerk Kavanaugh added, “This is a great example of departments working together to support the community.”
Why You Should Check Your NOV
The Notice of Value not only lists your property’s worth but also includes other important details such as:
- Owner’s name
- Property address
- Size of the home
- Building or land features
It’s important to read your NOV carefully. If you spot any mistakes or believe the assessed value is too high, this is the time to act.
How to File a Protest
To file your appeal, you can go in person to any of the satellite offices or the main office. Make sure to bring your NOV, any documents that support your claim (like photos or property records), and your photo ID. Staff will help guide you through the process.
Deadline to File
The deadline to file a protest is June 2, which is 30 days from the date the notices were mailed. After this date, you won’t be able to challenge the value until the next assessment period.
