Bernalillo County Fire Rescue Invites North Valley Residents to Wildfire Preparedness Town Hall

As wildfire season becomes more unpredictable, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue is inviting North Valley residents to get ready and learn how to protect their homes and families. A wildfire preparedness town hall will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 5:30 p.m. at Taft Middle School, 620 Schulte Rd NW.

This event is a chance for the community to get important tips and information directly from fire and emergency experts.

What Will Be Covered at the Town Hall?

At the town hall, you’ll learn:

  • How to create defensible space around your home to lower wildfire risk
  • How to plan for quick and safe evacuation
  • How to stay informed through emergency alerts
  • Details about fire restrictions and what you can do to help prevent wildfires
  • Plus, a live Q&A session with fire officials and emergency management experts

Acting Fire Chief Greg Perez shared a powerful reminder: “The question is not if a wildfire will happen, but when. Preparedness starts now, and we want to make sure every resident knows what to do to stay safe.”

Another Town Hall for East Mountains Residents

If you live in the East Mountains area, don’t worry—you’ll have your chance too. A second wildfire preparedness town hall is scheduled for May 1 at Los Vecinos Community Center.

Both events are free, and all residents are encouraged to attend. Learning how to prepare now could save your home—or even your life—later.

Wildfire season can hit without warning, but with the right knowledge and preparation, you can greatly reduce your risk. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue’s town halls will give residents the tools and confidence they need to stay safe. Whether you live in the North Valley or the East Mountains, take time to learn how to protect your family, your home, and your neighborhood. Preparedness today means safety tomorrow.
