TEEN CHARGED WITH CARJACKING WOMAN, LEADING POLICE ON CHASE - WILL REMAIN IN CUSTODY.

The 17-year-old charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and a minor in possession of a handgun will remain in custody as his case goes through the judicial process.
Police say earlier this week the teen carjacked a woman at gunpoint leading police on a chase that left a pedestrian injured. The state intends to charge the teen as an adult for these crimes.

MAN WHO IMPERSONATED SHERIFF’S DEPUTY AND BROUGHT FIREARM TO SCHOOL CAMPUS IS NOW HEADING TO PRISON.

Today a judge ruled Rico Dukes violated terms of his probation and will now serve 716 days in the Department of Corrections. Last December, Dukes pled guilty to impersonating a deputy and bringing a weapon onto a high school campus.
At initial sentencing last year, the State asked that Dukes be sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for the crimes, however the judge at initial sentencing deferred his sentence and gave Dukes probation. This month, Dukes violated his probation and will now serve two years in prison.

Today a judge ruled Raul Garcia will remain in custody as his case goes through the judicial process. Investigators believe Garcia sold hundreds of items stolen from stores, including Victoria’s Secret, Ulta, Sephora, Target, and Lululemon.

Today a judge ruled Conrad Coovert will stay in custody as his case goes through the judicial process.
Investigators say Coovert met a 14-year-old boy on social media.
Police say March 27, he lured the boy out of music lessons with a promise to take him to a convention. Police say Coovert ended up sexually assaulting the boy multiple times.
Court records show Coovert has similar charges in another state.

Late this afternoon, a jury convicted Kevin Cabral of First Degree Child Abuse Resulting in Great Bodily Harm.
On July 16, 2021 the 9-month-old victim was left with Cabral while the baby's mother was at work. Cabral later called the mom, saying something was wrong with the 9-month-old. The mother rushed home to find her baby unresponsive. She called 911 and the victim was rushed to UNMH. The baby had massive head trauma and it was determined he was the victim of someone shaking him. As a result, the child will have lifelong challenges. Cabral faces 18 years in prison.

Today a judge sentenced Ruben Benavidez to 25 years of incarceration for the fatal shooting of Cedric Garcia Guzman.
The crime happened at an apartment on Coal and 11th Street in Albuquerque in 2022. Benavidez was 17 years old at the time of the murder and was tried as an adult. In December, a jury convicted him of First-Degree Murder and tampering with evidence.
