Lucas Herron Found Guilty of Second Degree Murder for the Stabbing Death of Daniel Sandoval

This evening a jury found Lucas Herron guilty of second degree murder, two counts of tampering with evidence, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Herron is convicted of stabbing to death Daniel Sandoval at the Albertsons on Rio Bravo in April of 2018.

Herron, while with his 14-year-old-brother, initiated a verbal altercation with Sandoval inside the Albertsons as Sandoval and his wife were trying to grocery shop. Herron stabbed Sandoval in the chest and Sandoval died at the scene. Herron fled the scene and attempted to dispose of the six-inch knife and his sweatshirt which was concealing the knife. The Bernalillo County Sherriff’s Department arrested Herron shortly after the crime was committed and also retrieved the murder weapon that same day. The case was submitted to the jury at 1:30 pm and they returned with the guilty verdict at 5 p.m.

“No one should be terrorized the way Daniel Sandoval and his wife were in April of 2018,” said Bernalillo County District Attorney Raul Torrez. “The evidence, including the murder weapon and eyewitness testimony, solidified a successful conviction today. We hope that this outcome provides some peace for Daniel’s wife, friends and family.”
