Through a Federal Grant, This Event Will Provide Free Haircuts for Kids in the International District

Albuquerque, N.M. – The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office is partnering with the Albuquerque Barber College, Voz Preparatory Collegiate Charter School, Duke City Gladiators, and Olympian Academy of Cosmetology to bring Cuts for Communities to children in the International District. Cuts for Communities will provide free haircuts for children while also offering free food from McDonald’s and other giveaways.

Cuts for Communities will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30. Albuquerque Barber College will host the event while also providing their students the opportunity to perform haircuts for the kids. Olympian Academy will also be present to provide their staff for haircut services. Athletes from the Duke City Gladiators team will be handing out footballs and autographing each of them for attendees.

The event is produced from a federal grant the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office received in 2018. The grant focuses on community partnership and advocacy to highlight the existing resources that the International District provides to their community members.

“Cuts for Communities is an event to not only provide free haircuts to kids, but to also shine a light on the partnering agencies within the community,” said District Attorney Raul Torrez. “The partnering organizations along with my team members work everyday to bring valuable services to Albuquerque citizens. We will continue putting together events like this to bring people and resources together.”
